Based in Union, New Jersey, Eddie Donnelly served as the president of the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (FMBA) from 2013 to present. Due to his work with the FMBA, Eddie Donnelly is widely regarded as a leading voice in public pension policy and a respected leader within public safety unions.
During his tenure, Mr. Donnelly helped grow the FMBA into the leading public safety union in the state. He also served on the board of trustees for the Police and Firemen’s Retirement System of New Jersey (PFRSNJ) from 2019to 2024, including as its inaugural chair.
Since September 2000, Mr. Donnelly has served as a firefighter/EMT with the Union Fire Department, responding to major events such as 9/11, natural disasters, and the COVID-19 pandemic. He also held leadership roles with FMBA Local #46, including vice president (2003-2009) and president (2009-2025), where he negotiated labor agreements, managed employment-related disputes, and supported members.
Mr. Donnelly has received multiple awards recognizing both life-saving actions and labor leadership. These honors include the NJ FMBA Scott Garber Service Award and recognition from the Union County Emerald Society. He has also been acknowledged by the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association and various elected officials for his advocacy on behalf of first responders.
